Lyon Considering Offers…

Tanner Tessmann, a midfielder for the United States, may be on the move this summer from Lyon if a suitable offer arises. According to a source, clubs in Germany, Italy, and MLS have shown interest.

The 24-year-old has been a key player for Paulo Fonseca’s team this season, starting 22 matches in Ligue 1 and five in the Europa League. Lyon secured fourth place in France‘s top division, granting them a place in the qualifying rounds for next season’s Champions League.

The source mentioned that Fonseca wishes to retain Tessmann at the club; however, Lyon must offload some players to stabilize their finances after registering a significant loss in their latest financial report.

Lyon requires $23 million by the end of June to stay compliant with French financial fair play rules and may need an additional $69 million by the end of August if they fail to qualify for the Champions League group stage.

Only five players from the current team are considered off-limits in terms of transfers: Corentin Tolisso, Tyler Morton, Dominic Greif, Moussa Niakhaté, and either Malick Fofana or Afonso Moreira.

All other players, including Tessmann, could potentially depart to aid in resolving Lyon’s financial concerns.

Tessmann has represented the senior U.S. national team 14 times, scoring once, and is competing for a place in the squad for this summer’s World Cup, where the team will face Paraguay, Australia, and Türkiye in group matches.

Having joined Lyon from Venezia in the summer of 2024 for $7 million, Tessmann’s contract runs until June 2029, with the club reportedly seeking a fee of up to $23 million for his transfer.
