Kevin Mac Allister, older brother of Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, has earned his first call-up to the Argentina national team.
The defender from Union St.-Gilloise was selected as a late addition to replace Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández, who is sidelined due to a knee injury.
He will join Alexis and the Argentina squad for training in Alicante, Spain, leading up to their international friendly against Angola in Luanda on November 14.
At 28 years old, Kevin expressed gratitude to his teammates at Union St.-Gilloise for helping him realize “a dream.”
“I just want to thank everyone,” he said in a video shared by his club, speaking to his teammates in the locker room on Sunday.
“I received the call just two hours before the game [a 1-1 draw against Mechelen]. Tomorrow, I’m flying to Alicante to join the national team for the first time, and I know this moment is not just for me—it’s thanks to the support of everyone in this dressing room.”
He continued, “I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all.”
Kevin, who joined Union St.-Gilloise in the summer of 2023 from Argentinos Juniors, mentioned that his family is overjoyed.
“My family is very happy,” he shared. “When I called my wife, she was already crying, so it truly is a wonderful feeling. Tomorrow, I’ll be realizing a dream.”
Alexis, Kevin’s brother, was part of the Argentina team that won the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Copa América, having scored six goals in 41 appearances for the national team, known as the Albiceleste.
