Kylian Mbappé will be absent from Real Madrid‘s LaLiga match against Real Betis and is uncertain for next week’s Spanish Supercopa, according to ESPN sources, following the club’s announcement of a sprain in his left knee.
Mbappé, who leads LaLiga scoring with 18 goals this season, did not participate in training on Wednesday, despite being present during Tuesday’s open practice with fans, sources revealed.
This injury is the same left knee issue that has been affecting the France international in recent weeks.
Real Madrid confirmed in a brief statement on Wednesday: “After tests conducted today by Real Madrid Medical Services, our player Kylian Mbappé has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee. His recovery will be closely monitored.”
Madrid will face Betis on Sunday at the Bernabéu in their opening match of 2026, followed by a trip to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for the Supercopa.
In the semifinals, they will play a derby against Atlético Madrid on Jan. 8, with a potential final against either Barcelona or Athletic Club on Jan. 11.
