Sources have informed ESPN that Chelsea players Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer will not be part of England‘s squad for the 2026 World Cup. Additionally, Harry Maguire confirmed he is also excluded from the 26-man roster.

Thomas Tuchel plans to announce his England squad on Friday morning; however, reports emerged Thursday night indicating that both Palmer and Colwill will not be included.

Colwill returned from an ACL injury during Chelsea’s recent match against Nottingham Forest and played in their FA Cup final loss against Manchester United.

Palmer’s season has been plagued with injuries, and although he struggled with his performance, he was instrumental for England, having scored during the Euro 2024 final loss to Spain. His absence from the squad has raised eyebrows.

Reports suggest doubts about Phil Foden’s selection, with Luke Shaw and Fikayo Tomori also at risk of missing out. In contrast, Kobbie Mainoo is anticipated to be included, alongside Newcastle’s Tino Livramento.

Maguire announced on Instagram on Thursday that he will not be joining the World Cup squad. He expressed his disappointment, stating, “I believed I could have played a significant role this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’m shocked and devastated by the decision.”

“I’ve treasured wearing that shirt and representing my country over the years. I wish the players all the best this summer.”

Tuchel had called Maguire back for England’s previous two friendlies in March, where he had showcased strong performances for Manchester United this season.

Maguire played in the 1-1 draw against Uruguay and was introduced as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 defeat against Japan.

Having earned 66 caps and featured in the Euro 2020 final, Maguire’s exclusion from the World Cup squad is particularly surprising, especially after his calf injury had already sidelined him from Euro 2024.
