Defender Josko Gvardiol says new boss Enzo Maresca is an ideal fit for Manchester City.
The Italian steps into the daunting role of succeeding the iconic Pep Guardiola, who departed at the end of last season after a decade laden with trophies.
Maresca has signed a three-year contract to replace the Spaniard, arriving with a Championship title from his time at Leicester and a Club World Cup triumph with Chelsea.
The 46-year-old oversaw City for the first time in Saturday’s
friendly defeat on penalties
to Inter Milan in Hong Kong.
Gvardiol said the standards at the club are extremely high and that Maresca was appointed for good reason.
He added that the new manager brings quality and fresh ideas, and the team will see how their style, approach and tactics develop under him.
Gvardiol believes Maresca is the right choice, but stressed that change takes time and switching managers is never easy.
He said it is on the players to support the coach, listen, and adapt as quickly as possible.
Gvardiol also noted he has already spoken with Maresca about his injury and about how he played previously under Guardiola.
