Maresca: Estêvão on the…

Enzo Maresca is convinced that Chelsea winger Estêvão is “destined for greatness” in football following his impressive start in the Premier League.

Having joined Chelsea from Palmeiras for £29 million ($38.6 million) this summer, the Brazilian sensation set a new record in the Brazilian Serie A for the most goal involvements before turning 18, even surpassing Neymar.

Estêvão’s final appearance with Palmeiras saw him score against Chelsea in the Club World Cup, just as Maresca’s team eliminated them to claim the title.

Since arriving in London, Estêvão has quickly become a favorite among Chelsea supporters, with his popularity soaring after he scored a thrilling late winner against Liverpool earlier this month.

Both Chelsea fans and Maresca were thrilled with the 18-year-old’s signing, though the coach admits he has been pleasantly surprised by how quickly Estêvão has settled into the Premier League.

“His ability to adapt has truly astonished us,” Maresca told ESPN Brasil. “He’s only 18 years old, and I believe his close-knit family provides significant support.”

“When he arrived here, he found friends in João Pedro and Andrey Santos, who have been incredibly helpful to him.”

“Our coaching staff and the club are committed to ensuring he continues to adapt. He radiates happiness and enthusiasm for playing football. Last week he mentioned that it felt a bit chilly, but for us, it was still warm, and we reassured him that the colder days were yet to come. We are extremely pleased to have him on our team.”

Estêvão’s early days at Stamford Bridge have seen him set numerous records, including becoming Chelsea’s youngest scorer in Champions League history during a 5-1 victory over Ajax last Wednesday.

He has also earned his place on the Brazil national team, where he scored his debut goal against Chile last month, followed by a brace in a 5-0 victory over South Korea two weeks ago.

Knowing Estêvão well, Maresca has no doubt that he has the potential to excel at the highest level.

“I am confident he can contend for prestigious awards such as the Ballon d’Or or The [FIFA] Best,” he stated. “However, the priority is for him to concentrate on his growth and improvement. The accolades will naturally follow if he continues to develop.”

“He is a dedicated worker with immense talent, and I’m certain he will achieve remarkable success in football because he possesses everything needed to reach the top.”
