United States midfielder Weston McKennie scored in Juventus’ 2-0 victory over Genoa on Monday and earned the man of the match award.
McKennie found the net just 17 minutes into the match, following an early goal by Brazilian defender Bremer in the fourth minute.
McKennie could have scored more, missing two opportunities to extend his tally, while the crossbar also intervened when Jonathan David struck it.
This marked McKennie’s fifth goal of the season for Juventus, matching his personal best in Serie A.
Genoa’s Aaron Martin had a great chance to score a penalty with 15 minutes to go, but his attempt was saved by Mattia Perin, who also denied the follow-up shot.
The win allowed Juventus to narrow the gap to fourth-placed Como to just one point, as Como managed a 0-0 draw against Udinese.
Cesc Fabregas’ team dominated much of the match but struggled to beat Maduka Okoye in goal for Udinese.
This result ended Como’s five-game winning streak in Serie A, yet they remain in contention for a Champions League spot.
Later on Monday, substitute Matteo Politano secured a late 1-0 win for Napoli against AC Milan, narrowing the gap to Serie A leaders Inter Milan.
Starting the night in third place, Napoli aimed to keep their title hopes alive, one point behind AC Milan and ten adrift of Inter.
However, neither side displayed much urgency, resulting in a match with few clear-cut chances.
Politano, who entered the game just five minutes prior, broke the deadlock with 11 minutes remaining, striking a low shot into the net after AC Milan failed to clear a left-wing cross.
Milan attempted to equalize in the closing moments but couldn’t find the back of the net, dropping to third place.
U.S. forward Christian Pulisic came on as a substitute in the second half but was unable to make a difference, continuing his goalless streak this season.
As the day ended, Napoli trailed Inter by seven points with seven matches remaining, while AC Milan were two points further back.
