Inter Miami is currently in talks with Luis Suárez regarding a potential re-signing of the 38-year-old striker. Additionally, the MLS Cup champions have opted to secure Argentine World Cup winner Rodrigo De Paul on a permanent basis.

Miami’s chief: Luis Suárez’s future is his choice
Miami’s first MLS Cup title marks the culmination of a long-term vision

Suárez joined Inter Miami in December 2023 on a one-year deal, later opting to extend his contract through the 2025 MLS season. His most recent contract ended following Miami’s victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps, marking the club’s inaugural MLS Cup title.

Ahead of the final, Miami co-owner Jorge Mas indicated that the decision concerning Suárez’s future rests with the player himself.

“Luis Suárez is a legend of football; he is not just one of the best strikers of this generation but of all time,” Mas said to the press. “Luis will need to decide after the season ends, which could be tomorrow.”

He further added, “Luis deserves the opportunity to make that choice and to be honored as he should be by the club when he departs. If he chooses to continue with us for another year, that would be fantastic. I would love to see Suárez remain.”

De Paul made his way to Miami after a loan spell from LaLiga powerhouse Atlético Madrid, initially set to last until the end of 2025, now with the option to make the move permanent until the conclusion of the 2029 MLS season, a decision now finalized. Sources indicated that a four-year contract worth $12 million annually was prepared to be signed at the end of this season.

Following the retirement of midfielder Sergio Busquets after the MLS Cup final, Miami now has an open Designated Player spot to facilitate De Paul’s new contract.

The fate of Allende remains uncertain. The 26-year-old Argentine was pivotal in Miami’s championship campaign, scoring their third goal against Vancouver and setting an MLS playoff record with nine goals in a single postseason.

Miami is also in talks with three other players whose loans have ended: Allen Obando, Rocco Ríos Novo, and Baltasar Rodríguez.

Meanwhile, the club has confirmed that it has opted against extending contracts for Fafà Picault and William Yarbrough, while defender Marcelo Weigandt‘s loan from Boca Juniors has come to an end.

Currently, the club has 14 players signed for the upcoming season, including back-to-back MLS MVP winner Lionel Messi. Earlier on Thursday, Miami announced that it signed homegrown defender Ian Fray to a new contract lasting until the 2028-29 season.

The players currently under contract include: Noah Allen, Tomás Avilés, Israel Boatwright, Yannick Bright, Maximiliano Falcón, Ian Fray, Tyler Hall, Gonzalo Luján, Santiago Morales, David Ruiz, Mateo Silvetti, Telasco Segovia, and Oscar Ustari.
