Basketball icon Michael Jordan led a star-studded lineup in honoring Pep Guardiola’s remarkable career during his farewell celebration at Manchester City on Monday evening.
Guardiola announced last week that he would be stepping down as the club’s manager after an illustrious decade filled with accolades. His final match in charge ended in a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium over the weekend.
Jordan’s unexpected video tribute was showcased during a night that also featured appearances from former City captain and current Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany, along with Jack Grealish, who completed a loan spell at Everton this season.
Approximately 19,000 fans gathered to celebrate following the club’s parade honoring their recent Carabao and FA Cup victories.

“I just wanted to congratulate you on an incredible career,” Chicago Bulls great Jordan remarked in a video played on a large screen at the venue.
“Enjoy your retirement. Best of luck on the golf course, and keep it straight. Congratulations!”
British golfer Tommy Fleetwood also expressed his admiration, stating: “You deserve everything that comes next for you. It’s an honor to call you a friend, and congratulations on all you’ve achieved.”
Neil Warnock, who has surprisingly formed a close bond with Guardiola, added: “I can hardly believe you’re leaving. I’ve seen so many managers come and go, but you are at the top of the list. The best manager I have ever witnessed.”
Former captain Fernandinho, the club’s ex-sporting director and long-time Guardiola associate Txiki Begiristain, and goalkeeper Éderson, now with Fenerbahçe, unveiled all 20 trophies won under Guardiola’s leadership at England.
Guardiola delivered his farewell comments during a conversation with Oasis’ Noel Gallagher.
“Firstly, thank you all for coming tonight to say goodbye,” Guardiola stated. “This shows the deep connection this club has. [City chairman] Khaldoon Al Mubarak and all the people, especially the City fans who have been with us from the very beginning, thank you so much. I will carry you in my heart for the rest of my life.”
The event also served to honor the careers of John Stones and Bernardo Silva, both of whom are set to depart the club this summer as their contracts come to an end.
