Midfielder Croatia, Luka Modric, has officially extended his contract with AC Milan for an additional year.
At nearly 41 years old, Modric joined the Rossoneri on a free transfer in the summer of 2025 after departing from Real Madrid. During his first season in Milan, he made 37 appearances and netted two goals.
“I am excited to continue my journey with AC Milan, where I have felt embraced and appreciated since day one,” said Modric in a statement released by the club.
“After a season that fell short of our aspirations, I am eager to rebound. A new season brings new challenges, and I am motivated by the project ahead of us.”
“I am committed to giving my all for this team and take great pride in continuing to wear these colors.”
The announcement came after Modric returned from his fifth World Cup, where he led Croatia in all four matches, reaching a milestone of over 200 caps for his national team.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or recipient was still active on the pitch during the intense final moments of Croatia’s round of 32 match against Portugal, which ended controversially with a disallowed goal, resulting in a 2-1 defeat.
“We are thrilled to have one of the finest and most legendary players in world football continue his journey with us at Rossoneri,” Milan stated.
In Modric’s first season at San Siro, Milan finished fifth in Serie A and will compete in the Europa League this year with new coach Ruben Amorim at the helm.
