CF Montréal has officially signed Chilean forward Alexis Sánchez to a Designated Player contract, the club announced on Tuesday.
At 37 years old, Sánchez joins Montréal after a stint with LaLiga’s Sevilla, where he netted four goals in 30 appearances across all competitions. His contract with Montréal extends through May, covering the current MLS season and the upcoming sprint season in the first half of 2027.
The club also holds a one-year option for the 2027-28 season, which will be the inaugural season under the restructured league calendar.

This transfer marks the conclusion of Sánchez’s 18-year career in Europe, during which he played for some of the sport’s most renowned clubs, including River Plate, Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Internazionale.
Throughout his career, Sánchez contributed to his teams winning six league championships and 11 cups. Since starting with Cobreloa in Chile in 2005, he has made over 800 club appearances and scored more than 200 goals.

On the international stage, Sánchez was a key figure for Chile, helping lead La Roja to two Copa América titles in 2015 and 2016, achieving victory over Lionel Messi and Argentina. He was recognized as the tournament’s best player in the latter competition, earning the Golden Ball award.
Sánchez holds the records for the most goals (51) and the most appearances (168) for the Chilean national team.
Currently, Montréal is positioned second to last in the MLS Eastern Conference, with 16 points from 18 matches. Their next game is scheduled at home against DC United on August 15.
