Morocco Stuns Argentina to…

Morocco concluded an unforgettable journey in Chile on Sunday night, securing a 2-0 victory over Argentina to clinch the Under-20 World Cup trophy.

This victory marks Morocco’s first World Cup triumph at any age level in the nation’s history.

Yassir Zabiri, playing for FC Famalicao in Portugal, netted two first-half goals, giving Morocco a 2-0 lead at halftime — a lead that would prove decisive.

Morocco advanced to the final after defeating South Korea, the United States, and France in the knockout stages before taking down Argentina, becoming the first African nation to win the U20 title since Ghana in 2009.

This marked Argentina’s first defeat of the tournament as they sought their seventh title.

Despite missing their top two players, Bayer Leverkusen’s Claudio Echeverri and Real Madrid’s Franco Mastantuono, Argentina still reached the final.

The Argentine senior team has already secured a spot in the 2026 World Cup held in North America, following their semifinal appearance in the 2022 edition in Qatar, where they were defeated by France.

As the defending World Cup champions, Argentina’s senior squad is also set for next summer’s tournament.
