Mourinho Dismisses Soap…

Benfica manager José Mourinho has dismissed rumors suggesting a possible return to Real Madrid this summer as mere “soap opera” gossip.

Last week, Madrid parted ways with Xabi Alonso, who had spent less than eight months in the role, and subsequently appointed Álvaro Arbeloa, previously the coach of their reserve team, as his successor.

When questioned about the speculation in Spain regarding a potential return for the 2026-27 season, Mourinho stated after Benfica’s 2-0 victory against Rio Ave on Saturday: “Don’t count on me for soap operas. They are entertaining but often too lengthy.”

“If you miss an episode or two, you lose the plot. Just don’t rely on me; I don’t watch soap operas.”

Mourinho, 62, led Madrid to LaLiga victory and secured both the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Supercup during his three-year tenure (2010-2013) with the club.

The former manager of Chelsea and Manchester United took charge at Benfica in September and is contracted until June 2027.
