RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — David Neres netted a goal in each half for Napoli, leading the reigning Serie A champions to a 2-0 victory over Bologna in the Italian Super Cup on Monday.
The match took place in Riyadh as part of a tournament contested by the previous season’s league and cup champions and runners-up.
Neres opened the scoring in the 39th minute with a stunning left-footed strike from 25 yards that curled into the far corner, leaving Bologna’s Federico Ravaglia helpless in goal.
His second goal showcased his versatility; nearly an hour into the match, he capitalized on a careless pass from Ravaglia, stealing the ball from John Lucumi and delicately lifting it over the fallen goalkeeper.
This match marked the second time Neres has scored a brace for Napoli since his transfer from Benfica in August 2024.
With this victory, Napoli has now claimed the Super Cup title three times, adding to their previous wins in 1990 and 2014. Under Antonio Conte’s management, the team has secured seven victories in their last nine competitive matches.
Napoli currently sits in third place in Serie A, just one point behind AC Milan and two points behind league leaders Inter Milan.
