Newcastle Edges Leeds in…

Harvey Barnes clinched a thrilling 4-3 win for Newcastle against Leeds in a seven-goal Premier League showdown that would make Kevin Keegan proud.

The match took place on a poignant evening when it was revealed that the beloved figure known as “King Kev” in Tyneside is undergoing cancer treatment. The team he played for and managed twice delivered a spectacular 90 minutes where Leeds took the lead three times.

Leeds’ talented Brenden Aaronson scored twice, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin added another from the penalty spot. However, they were matched by goals from Barnes, Joelinton, and Bruno Guimarães, setting the stage for a dramatic finish that saw Barnes score the winning goal in front of an enthralled crowd of 52,176 fans.

Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri was fortunate to avoid conceding early when, under pressure from Fabian Schär, he misjudged a looping header from Malick Thiaw following a free-kick from Lewis Hall; the referee ruled a foul had occurred.

Anton Stach tested Nick Pope with a 25th-minute shot after Guimarães was dispossessed, while Lewis Miley went close at the other end with a header following a corner from the Brazil international.

Struijk saw a header go wide from Stach’s corner, but Perri executed a good low save to deny Barnes’ 31st-minute effort after the midfielder linked up well with Anthony Gordon.

Leeds took the lead shortly after, with Calvert-Lewin capitalizing on Thiaw’s mistake, allowing Aaronson to slot home.

Newcastle responded quickly, leveling the score just four minutes later when Barnes netted from close range following a sequence of precise passes involving Guimarães, Gordon, and Nick Woltemade.

The home side almost took the lead six minutes before half-time when Gordon’s free-kick rattled the far post, but they went into the break trailing after Calvert-Lewin converted a penalty deep into stoppage time after Jaka Bijol’s header struck Thiaw’s arm.

Pope made a crucial save from Aaronson’s shot as Leeds surged forward at the start of the second half, but Newcastle equalized just two minutes later. Miley intercepted Guimarães’ stray pass, allowing the Brazilian to deliver a cross that Joelinton flicked home.

Joelinton and Woltemade had shots blocked, while Schär struck the post during a chaotic 65th-minute scramble. At the other end, Justin’s header from an Aaronson cross hit the crossbar as both teams sought a decisive goal.

Leeds appeared to have found the winner with 11 minutes left when Ilia Gruev set up Aaronson, who found the net off the far post.

In a dramatic twist, a minute from time, Aaronson was penalized for handling Hall’s cross, and Guimarães converted the penalty to level the score again. Just moments later, as the clock wound down, Barnes turned and fired past Perri, securing a sensational victory for Newcastle.
