Neymar Announces End of…

Neymar, visibly emotional, said his time with Brazil’s national team has come to an end after their 2026 World Cup last-16 loss to Norway.

The 34-year-old entered in the 67th minute with Brazil trailing 2-0 and, although he converted a stoppage-time penalty at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, it was only a consolation as the Selecao were knocked out.

Reflecting on the moment, Neymar noted that his international journey had come full circle at the same venue where he made his Brazil debut in August 2010, scoring in a 2-0 friendly win over the United States.

He departs as Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 80 goals and sits second in appearances with 130 caps, behind Cafu’s 142.

After injury issues kept him out of the national team since 2023, he returned for the 2026 World Cup, featuring late in the 3-0 group-stage win over Scotland and again against Norway.

This tournament was his fourth World Cup, following appearances in 2014, 2018, and 2022.
