Neymar Undergoes Minor…

SAO PAULO — Neymar has undergone a minor surgical procedure on his left knee, as announced by his club Santos on Monday.

The 33-year-old forward previously expressed his desire to address the discomfort that has kept him out of several matches this year. The surgery, performed by Rodrigo Lasmar—who is also associated with the Brazil national team—was minimally invasive and focused on issues within the joint.

Last weekend, during a music event in Sao Paulo, Neymar expressed his hopes of participating in the World Cup and aiming to score in the final match. Brazil’s coach Carlo Ancelotti, who took over in May, has yet to include Neymar in his squad.

“We will do everything possible to bring this cup to Brazil,” Neymar stated. “In July, feel free to remind us about it. Hey, Ancelotti, lend us a hand!”

Neymar has faced challenges in his recovery after suffering an ACL tear during World Cup qualifying in October 2023. He rejoined his childhood club Santos in January and participated in only 19 of the 38 matches in Brazil’s Serie A, which began in April, scoring eight goals. His contributions in the final rounds were crucial in helping Santos avoid relegation.

Sources have informed ESPN that Neymar is in discussions with Santos about extending his contract for at least another six months as the World Cup approaches in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Ancelotti has consistently stated that Neymar will be considered for selection if he regains full fitness.
