“Even though he only had 13 minutes, he acquitted himself brilliantly and earned praise from his coach, yet, puzzlingly, he wasn’t given any further time on the pitch. That was frustrating, as we felt he merited it—though perhaps we’re biased,” he said.
“We were all incredibly proud of him.”
However, he added that he was glad other family members were at the match in which Callan featured.
“It was great that two of his brothers were there to watch him come on,” he said.
“It brought back memories of them playing football in the garden at our Brydekirk home more than 20 years ago.”
