Former France international Paul Pogba has left AS Monaco after the club terminated his contract just a year into a deal that was set to run until June 2027. Monaco said the agreement ended early because targets set by both sides were only partially met.
The 2018 World Cup winner made six appearances last season, five of them off the bench.
“Representing this club and the Principality was an incredible experience,” Pogba said. “AS Monaco is an incredible club and although I did not play as many games as I had hoped, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to wear their colours.”
Pogba joined Monaco last summer after being cleared to resume his career following a doping suspension incurred at Juventus. He maintained it was a mistake, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced his ban from four years to 18 months, allowing his return in March 2025.
BBC Sport understands Pogba is attracting interest from Major League Soccer, with DC United and Inter Miami previously linked. However, a hamstring injury suffered during Monaco’s pre-season camp in England last week could slow any potential move.
Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro called Pogba’s signing a bold and ambitious challenge. He said that while things did not turn out as hoped, the excitement around Pogba’s return and the fact he made it back onto the pitch should not be overlooked, adding: “We wish Paul all the very best for the future.”
