Pep Guardiola expressed feelings of “embarrassment and shame” regarding his encounter with a television cameraman following Manchester City‘s 2-1 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday.
The incident occurred on the pitch at St James’ Park, where Guardiola appeared to confront a cameraman in a heated manner.
He also had animated discussions with referee Samuel Barrott and Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães shortly after the defeat.
In a news conference on Monday, Guardiola addressed the situation and shared that he had apologized to the cameraman for his behavior.
“I feel embarrassed and ashamed when I see it,” Guardiola stated. “I don’t like it. I immediately apologized to the cameraman.”
“I am who I am. After 1,000 games, I am not a perfect person; I make significant mistakes. It’s not just about that. What matters is I always defend my team and my club.”
During a tense news conference before Bayer Leverkusen‘s upcoming visit to the Etihad Stadium for the Champions League, Guardiola subtly criticized Claudio Echeverri‘s agent.
Echeverri, currently on loan from City to Leverkusen, has had limited playing time in the Bundesliga.

City would have preferred Echeverri to join Girona, part of the City Football Group family, and Guardiola implied he was dissatisfied that the 19-year-old ended up in Germany.
“I always hope for players to get ample game time; that’s the intention,” Guardiola mentioned regarding Echeverri’s situation. “We have immense respect for him as a player. I’m sure his agent is aware of all the details.”
When asked if Echeverri might return to City in January, Guardiola responded, “That’s a question for his esteemed agent.”
