DOHA, Qatar — On Thursday, Portugal clinched the FIFA Under-17 World Cup title, defeating Austria 1-0 in the final of a tournament featuring 48 teams, where European nations secured the top three spots.

In the 32nd minute, Benfica forward Anísio Cabral managed to stay narrowly onside to collect a pass across the goal and score into an open net.

This marked Cabral’s seventh goal of the tournament, trailing only Austria’s Golden Ball winner Johannes Moser by one goal.

This victory marked Portugal’s inaugural U17 title and occurred during the 20th edition of this tournament, which FIFA has now expanded to an annual event instead of hosting it every two years.

The tournament took place in Qatar, which will also serve as the host for the next four editions.

Earlier in Doha, goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni made two crucial penalty saves, helping Italy defeat Brazil 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a scoreless draw in the third-place match.
