PSG, Bayern bracing for…

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are gearing up for another thrilling encounter as they meet for the second leg of their Champions League semifinal in Germany on Wednesday.

The first leg in Paris last week delivered a European classic, with PSG emerging victorious in a stunning 5-4 match—recording the highest goal tally for a semifinal in the tournament’s history.

Despite mixed feedback concerning their defensive play, neither team seems poised to alter their strategy for the upcoming match, with the chance to compete in the Champions League final at stake.

Luis Enrique: PSG-Bayern ‘best match’ as coach

“Honestly, we felt it was an incredible match. We play football for games like that, and I believe what we showcased was one of the most beautiful matches in Champions League history,” PSG midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery commented during a press conference on Tuesday.

“The level of intensity, the commitment shown, and the number of goals were just exceptional. We expect an equally thrilling match, if not more so. We are prepared, our goal is clear, and we aim to reach the final.”

Zaïre-Emery is anticipated to step in at right back for Achraf Hakimi, who suffered an injury in the first leg.

PSG head coach Luis Enrique dismissed the idea of playing conservatively to defend their first-leg lead, despite knowing that a draw in Munich would suffice to secure a final spot in Budapest on May 30.

“This will be a high-caliber match between two of Europe’s top teams,” Enrique asserted.

“I can’t guarantee that the approach will change from what we saw in the first match. Neither team is willing to concede superiority to the other, suggesting that this match could be even better.”

“Our goal remains to win every match. Against Bayern, we don’t see the need to alter our game plan because our focus is on trying to secure victory.”

“Now is the time to elevate our performance to reach the final. It’s crucial for us to demonstrate why we deserve to be in this position and remain true to our team’s identity.”

Bayern’s only injury concern is Serge Gnabry, while Raphaël Guerreiro and Lennart Karl have returned to full training and could potentially participate against PSG.

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany, akin to Enrique, is inclined towards an aggressive strategy and believes that there’s no reason for a shift in tactics for the second leg at the Allianz Arena.

“If I claimed that we need to drastically change our approach, that wouldn’t be a constructive answer,” Kompany stated.

“It’s about providing minor adjustments as solutions for the players. The same goes for Luis Enrique. The focus should remain on encouraging the players based on what they have excelled at this season.”

“The dynamics depend on both teams. If one opts to pull back, the game may become more subdued. If not, excitement is guaranteed. We must stick to what has brought us this far, making it challenging for both our team and Paris to deviate from our usual styles.”

“Playing at home, our intention is to win. Ultimately, it’s crucial to prioritize winning the match.”

“At times, defenders have had the edge, and at others, attackers. We need to be vigilant for the full 90 minutes.”

“Currently, we’re at a point where the players still possess the energy, which is significant, but I would also say PSG are in top form, consistently bringing intensity,” Kompany added.
