In an unexpected turn of events, Rennes triumphed over Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain with a score of 3-1 at home, ending a five-game winless streak.
The home team dismissed coach Habib Beye on Monday as their early season performance started to wane, making them significant underdogs against PSG.
Last season’s treble winners had regained the top position ahead of Lens after a commanding 5-0 victory over Marseille, marking their seventh consecutive league win. However, they faced a harsh reality check in Brittany.

Rennes came close early in the match, hitting the post, and were rewarded for their bold approach in the 33rd minute. Jordanian midfielder Mousa Al-Tamari surged forward on a counterattack, finding the perfect gap between two defenders to curl in a stunning opener.
PSG improved their performance but appeared hesitant in front of goal. Rennes’ Esteban Lepaul extended their lead in the second half with a powerful header, marking his 11th goal of the season.
In a brief response, former Rennes player Ousmane Dembélé pulled one back for PSG just two minutes later. However, Breel Embolo restored Rennes’ two-goal cushion in the 81st minute, finishing off another counterattack.
Despite the loss, PSG remains at the top of the table, but second-placed Lens has the opportunity to overtake them if they defeat Paris FC on Saturday.
With this win, Rennes climbed above Lille into fifth place.
