MILAN — AC Milan confirmed on Friday that Christian Pulisic has sustained a right hamstring injury while participating in a friendly match for the United States earlier this week.
According to Milan, “An MRI scan conducted today revealed a low-grade tear in his right hamstring.” Pulisic is set to be “reevaluated in about 10 days.”
Injuries like this can take as little as three weeks to heal, with a target return date for Pulisic set for the city derby against Inter Milan on November 23. He has been a standout performer for Milan this season, helping the club secure a spot in the top three of Serie A.
Pulisic appeared to overstretch his right leg during the first half of a 2-1 victory on Tuesday against Australia at the Colorado Rapids’ stadium.
The U.S. team has friendly matches scheduled for November 15 and 18 against Paraguay and Uruguay, both of which, like Australia, have qualified for the upcoming 48-team World Cup. The U.S. will co-host the tournament with Canada and Mexico.
The U.S. team’s next competitive match will be their World Cup opener on June 12 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The opponent will be determined during the finals tournament draw on December 5 in Washington, D.C.
