Cavenagh was accompanied by chief executive Jim Gillespie and shareholder Paraag Marathe.
Gillespie fielded questions about appointing McInnes, who narrowly missed out on the title with Heart of Midlothian last season.
“You can go for a Pep Guardiola-type manager or a Jurgen Klopp-type manager—we wanted a Klopp-style coach who plays on the front foot,” Gillespie said.
“Derek has been near the top of our list for a long time, and we believe he fits the club’s style and culture.”
He also confirmed the club is seeking clarification from the SFA about the VAR decision that led to Hibernian’s penalty in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat.
“My understanding is that it needs to be a clear and obvious error for the referee to be called over,” Gillespie said. “I didn’t see that as either clear or obvious.
“We need a strategy for developing referees and VAR.
“My question to the SFA would be, ‘What is the strategy for improvement?’—we need to see progress.”
