Ranieri Exits as Roma…

Claudio Ranieri has parted ways with Roma, where he served as a special adviser, following a dispute with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

In a statement released on Friday, the club announced, “AS Roma confirms that its relationship with Claudio Ranieri has come to an end. We extend our gratitude to Claudio for his invaluable contributions during a challenging period for the team, and we will always appreciate his efforts.”

The 74-year-old Ranieri resigned as Roma’s head coach at the conclusion of last season after the team narrowly missed Champions League qualification by one point, despite a commendable finish. He subsequently became a special adviser to the American ownership group, playing a role in the selection of Gasperini as his successor.

However, Ranieri recently expressed criticism regarding Gasperini’s comments on the club’s transfer strategy, making his dissent public.

The club has chosen to support Gasperini in this situation

“Looking ahead, our direction is unmistakable. AS Roma is strong, with robust leadership and a clear vision,” the club stated. “AS Roma will always be the priority. We have complete confidence in the future under Gian Piero Gasperini, aiming for growth, improvement, and results that reflect our proud history.”

As it stands, Roma is positioned sixth in Serie A, trailing the Champions League spots by five points with just five matches left in the season.

Ranieri returned from retirement in November 2024 to coach his hometown team, which was languishing in 12th place. His guidance led Roma to a fifth-place finish, losing only once during the latter half of the season.
