Rashford Back for Barças…

Marcus Rashford has successfully battled through a bout of flu and is set to return to England this week for Barcelona‘s Champions League clash against Chelsea in London.

The 28-year-old forward missed Barça’s recent match at Spotify Camp Nou, a 4-0 victory over Athletic Club in LaLiga, due to his inability to train leading up to the match.

However, he returned to training with his teammates on Sunday and Monday and is included in Hansi Flick’s squad for Tuesday’s game at Stamford Bridge.

“I’m really pleased to have him back. He just recovered from a cold, so we’ll decide tomorrow if he starts or comes off the bench,” Hansi Flick mentioned during a press conference on Monday.

“It’s fantastic to have him playing for Barcelona. I’ve closely followed his career, and I’ve always been impressed with his quality, especially in the box and in front of goal. He showcased that talent here in Barcelona.

This transition to living in a different culture, along with the wonderful weather and atmosphere in Barcelona, has been amazing for him. You can see he’s smiling a lot. If he enjoys the atmosphere, it will certainly be beneficial for him.”

Rashford, who is on loan from Manchester United, has shone in Europe for Barcelona this season, netting four goals and providing one assist across four matches, including two goals against Newcastle United.

In total, he has scored six goals and assisted eight in 16 appearances for the Spanish champions.

His return presents a selection challenge for Flick as he recovers key players from injury.

Ferran Torres, Robert Lewandowski, and Lamine Yamal comprised the front three against Athletic, with Raphinha making a comeback as a substitute after a two-month injury absence.

With Rashford’s inclusion, Flick now has five options for three forward positions, although Raphinha can also play as an attacking midfielder if needed.

Goalkeeper Joan García also made his return over the weekend following a lengthy absence, helping Barça secure their first clean sheet since September. However, Pedri, Gavi, and André ter Stegen remain sidelined.

Pedri is expected to be back in action for the weekend’s match against Alavés at Camp Nou, while Gavi and Ter Stegen are not anticipated to return in the near future.

Tuesday’s match in London provides Barça an opportunity to rebound from their disappointing 3-3 draw against Club Brugge in the last Champions League match.

Like Chelsea, Barça sits with seven points from four games, currently positioned 11th in the standings. A victory in this match would advance them towards their goal of breaking into the top eight.

Barcelona Set to Extend Eric García’s Contract

In other news, Barcelona is approaching a new long-term agreement with Eric García, according to multiple sources. His current contract runs out next summer, but recent negotiations have been positive, and an agreement appears to be on the horizon.

The former Manchester City defensor has become a vital player for Hansi Flick this season, demonstrating versatility as a central defender, right-back, and holding midfielder.

Once García’s contract is renewed, he will join a group of key renewals, including Pedri, Gavi, and Frenkie de Jong. Sporting director Deco will now focus on decisions regarding Robert Lewandowski and Andreas Christensen.

Once García signs, he will be one of the few permanent members of the current squad with contracts extending until 2026.
