Real Madrid defender Raul…

Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been cleared by a Spanish court of alleged involvement in the distribution of an explicit video featuring a minor. The case in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, resulted in charges against Asencio being withdrawn.

The court handed down minimal penalties to three other defendants after the victims—a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman—offered forgiveness. The proceedings centered on the recording and circulation of a sexual video linked to an intimate encounter at a Gran Canaria beach club in June 2023.

Three former Real Madrid academy teammates received one-year suspended sentences for child pornography offenses and must complete a sexual re-education program. They were also given a two-year restraining order barring contact with the victims and a three-year ban from working in professions involving minors.

Asencio said he had remained silent out of respect for the legal process and expressed relief at the acquittal. He acknowledged the media’s role but noted the personal and family toll of coverage ahead of the court’s decision, adding that he always trusted the justice system and is ready to close this chapter.

In a separate matter, Real Madrid has opened disciplinary proceedings after Asencio’s drink-driving conviction in Gran Canaria. He was found to be more than three times over the legal limit on 16 August, receiving a fine and an eight-month driving ban.

Head coach Jose Mourinho said he spoke with Asencio upon his return but does not discuss off-field issues publicly. He praised the player’s professionalism and dedication to recovery from a recent injury, while stressing that Real Madrid players represent the club at all times and that such incidents damage its reputation. He said he was not pleased with what happened.

Addressing the drink-driving case, Asencio apologized, accepted full responsibility, and said he has learned from the experience and will not repeat it. He emphasized his wish to move forward and agreed with his coach about maintaining high standards on and off the pitch.
