Real Madrid: Mbappé…

Real Madrid has announced that Kylian Mbappé is dealing with a left-knee sprain, with medical evaluations indicating that the forward’s current “conservative treatment” is the most suitable course of action.

Mbappé has faced ongoing discomfort in his knee since December, resulting in several missed matches. Consequently, Madrid determined that the France international would need an extended period of rest, prompting coach Álvaro Arbeloa to state last week that his absence “won’t be a question of days.”

In a brief statement on Monday, Madrid provided clarity on the issue, saying, “Following tests conducted by French medical specialists and under the supervision of Real Madrid’s medical team, a sprain in his left knee has been confirmed, and the need for conservative treatment is deemed appropriate. His recovery will be closely monitored.” You can read the full statement here.

This marks the first time the club has officially addressed Mbappé’s knee issue, following significant speculation in Madrid’s media regarding the injury’s seriousness.

On Sunday, Arbeloa emphasized that the club has a clear understanding of the situation and the steps moving forward.

Real Madrid had attempted to manage Mbappé’s knee condition by resting him during key matches, including the Champions League clash against Manchester City in December, the Spanish Supercopa semifinal in January, and a league match against Real Sociedad in February, along with last week’s playoff second leg against Benfica.

Arbeloa mentioned on Sunday, “We are very clear about what is wrong and what we want now: for Mbappé to fully recover from his discomfort so he can return at 100%, with complete confidence and security—only when he feels entirely recovered and the discomfort has vanished.”

Following Monday’s LaLiga match against Getafe at the Bernabéu, Madrid will visit Celta Vigo on Friday, and face City at the Bernabéu in the Champions League round of 16 on March 11.

They will then compete against Elche on March 14, followed by the second leg in Manchester on March 17.

As of now, ahead of the match against Getafe on Monday, Madrid finds themselves four points behind league leaders Barcelona, who recently secured a 4-1 victory over Villarreal.
