Roberto Carlos, the legendary former full-back for Brazil and Real Madrid, announced on Wednesday that he has undergone a preventive heart procedure. He emphasized that he did not suffer a heart attack and is currently in recovery at a hospital in São Paulo.
“I want to clarify some information that has been circulating,” the 52-year-old star stated on social media. “I recently had a planned medical procedure that was successful, and I am doing well.”
“I did not experience a heart attack. I am recovering well and look forward to regaining my full strength and returning to my professional and personal commitments soon. I deeply appreciate the support and concern from everyone. There is no reason for alarm. My heartfelt gratitude goes to the medical team for their care.”
Widely considered one of the greatest full-backs in football history, Roberto Carlos had a remarkable career that included winning the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, as well as capturing four LaLiga titles and three UEFA Champions League trophies during his time with Real Madrid from 1996 to 2007.
He was also a finalist for the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 1997 and finished as a Ballon d’Or runner-up in 2002.
