Trinity Rodman was substituted early in the second half during the Washington Spirit‘s 1-0 victory over Seattle Reign FC on Sunday after receiving medical attention on the field.
Rodman appeared to be in pain after pursuing a ball in front of the goal off a Spirit corner kick, quickly going to the ground while holding her right ankle.
After a short evaluation by the Spirit’s medical team, Rodman attempted to continue but was substituted by Lucia Di Guglielmo in the 56th minute with the score still at 0-0. She left the field on her own and was later seen conversing and smiling with teammates on the bench.
Rodman had previously struggled with a severe back injury at the end of the 2024 season, which lingered into 2025. Additionally, she faced an MCL strain that hampered her performance during the Spirit’s playoff run, which tragically ended in a 1-0 loss to Gotham FC in the championship match.
She made her return to play with the United States in January and again during the SheBelieves Cup in March, where she experienced another minor back scare that proved not to be serious.
Claudia Martinez scored a late goal to secure the win for Washington, earning them all three points from the match.
This season, the NWSL’s highest-paid player, Rodman, has netted three goals in nine appearances for the Spirit, including the match against the Reign.
Following a challenging start to the season, the Spirit have now claimed five consecutive victories and currently sit in second place with 18 points, just one point behind NWSL leaders, the Portland Thorns.
