Rodri Avoids Suspension…

Rodri will not face a ban after accepting an FA charge related to his remarks about match officials following Manchester City‘s recent draw with Tottenham.

The Spanish midfielder received a fine of £80,000 (approximately $107,000) and has been cautioned regarding his future behavior after he suggested that referee Robert Jones lacked neutrality during the 2-2 match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in February.

A statement from the FA released on Monday noted: “An independent regulatory commission has penalized Rodri for the comments he made to the media after Manchester City’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on February 1.”

“The midfielder was accused of acting improperly during a post-match media interview by making comments that could imply bias and/or question the integrity of a match official, contravening FA Rule E3.1.”

“Rodri later admitted to the charges against him. The Regulatory Commission determined an £80,000 fine and issued a warning for future conduct after conducting a hearing.”

During the match against Spurs, City was particularly frustrated when replays revealed that Dominic Solanke scored by kicking through Marc Guéhi‘s leg, helping the home side recover from a 2-0 deficit.

Rodri expressed that City had endured similar contentious decisions for “two or three matches in a row.”

In a letter clarifying his comments, for which he has since apologized, the 29-year-old referred to decisions regarding Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot not being sent off for a challenge on Jérémy Doku during the 2-0 derby loss at Old Trafford, as well as the disallowance of an Antoine Semenyo goal in the 2-0 victory over Newcastle in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal.
