Mohamed Salah has faced backlash from Danny Murphy and Michael Owen following his controversial comments regarding Liverpool.
Salah made headlines with his assertion that he could leave Liverpool during the January transfer window, expressing feelings of being unfairly blamed for the team’s poor performance.
He was left on the bench during Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United on Saturday, marking the third consecutive match where he was not utilized by manager Arne Slot.
Critics have questioned Salah’s choice to voice his frustrations publicly.

Former Liverpool midfielder Murphy remarked on Match of the Day, “He should approach the manager or the owners to express his concerns, rather than making this public. It’s detrimental to the team and puts the focus on him.”
Owen echoed similar sentiments on social media, stating, “I understand your frustrations, having carried the team for so long and achieved much. However, this is a team sport, and such public statements are inappropriate. With the Africa Cup of Nations coming up, it’s best to remain composed and represent your country well before reassessing the situation upon your return.”
Salah’s streak of 53 consecutive Premier League starts for Liverpool ended last week when he was excluded from the lineup against West Ham.
Throughout his time with Liverpool, he has netted 250 goals in 420 appearances and scored five goals in 18 appearances so far this season.
This year, he also signed a two-and-a-half-year contract extension after contributing to Liverpool’s Premier League victory last season. However, the team currently sits in eighth place after 15 matches, with mounting pressure.
Salah is scheduled to represent Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations starting December 15, with potential participation extending until at least December 29, and the final set for January 18.
If Egypt advances to the final, Salah would miss six Liverpool matches, including next week’s clash with Tottenham, the Wolves match at Anfield, and several other fixtures as they progress.
