Mohamed Salah is set to make his return before Liverpool plays its final match of the season, as confirmed by the club.
The 33-year-old forward, who will depart the club at the season’s end, was substituted during their 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
A club statement released on Wednesday indicated that Salah’s injury is a “minor muscle issue,” and he is expected to be fit before the last game against Brentford on May 26.
Salah appeared to sustain a hamstring injury during the Palace match but left the field without assistance, acknowledging the crowd with applause.
In response to the injury, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk expressed confidence that Salah would receive a proper farewell regardless of whether he played his final match or not.
With the injury confirmed to be minor, it now seems likely that Salah will be able to receive a hero’s send-off on the final day at Anfield.
Last month, the Egyptian winger announced that this season would mark his last at the club, putting an end to prolonged speculation regarding his future.
The club noted, “The forward has reached an agreement with the Reds that will conclude a remarkable nine-year tenure at Anfield.” Salah also conveyed his desire to share this news with supporters as soon as possible to provide clarity about his future, showing his respect and appreciation for them.
This update will also be welcomed by Egypt as they prepare for their World Cup opener against Belgium on June 15.
