Serie A Abandons Plans for…

The scheduled Serie A match between AC Milan and Como set to take place in Australia next month has been called off.

A joint statement by the Italian league and local organizers was released on Monday confirming the cancellation.

Ezio Simonelli, president of Serie A, stated that the Asian Football Confederation had recently issued “escalating and unacceptable requests,” which made organizing the match impossible.

Milan was seeking an alternative location to host the match due to the unavailability of their San Siro stadium during the opening ceremony of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

This would have marked the first domestic game from one of Europe’s top five leagues held outside the continent.

AC Milan and Como are located less than an hour apart.

The match originally scheduled for February 8 has not yet been relocated.
