PARIS — Arne Slot expressed that Liverpool still holds onto hope for a Champions League comeback against Paris Saint-Germain, despite acknowledging that his side was “ripped apart” by the reigning European champions during a 2-0 quarterfinal first-leg defeat in the French capital.
With goals from Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, PSG heads to Anfield for the second leg next Tuesday with a comfortable lead, although Luis Enrique’s team could have easily secured a five or six-goal victory given the number of chances created.

Slot utilized a 3-4-3 formation and made the decision to drop Mohamed Salah in an attempt to stifle PSG’s play, but the strategy ultimately failed.
Despite the loss in the first leg, Slot believes Liverpool can turn the tie around and make it to the semifinals by winning the return match at Anfield.
“Looking back at the entire game, we are fortunate that we only lost 2-0,” Slot reflected. “It’s beneficial for us that we’re still in the tie, and we know the impact Anfield can have for us.
“Of course, we believe we can improve. We were in survival mode for large portions of the match, which reflects our current phase in the season.”
“PSG showcases pace across the board; wherever you look, there’s incredible athleticism.
“Players like Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes pose an exceptional attacking threat; they don’t merely sprint; they’re on another level, and we had to contend with that.
“Typically, players such as Jeremie Frimpong and Miloš Kerkez are better suited to handle that pace than traditional wingers, yet whenever we attempted to press, we were often torn apart.
“We’ve tried every tactic possible, but the outcome remains unchanged, with Paris Saint-Germain overpowering their opponents.
“They were clearly the superior team. We didn’t give up, which is why we still have a chance. They kept us in the game by missing several open opportunities.”
Liverpool must now rely on the Anfield atmosphere to inspire an improbable second-leg win, and Slot notes the crucial role the fans will play next week.
“We’re hopeful to deliver a different performance at Anfield,” Slot stated. “An aggressive pressing game relies heavily on fan support, and a loud atmosphere can be truly beneficial.
“It’s evident that we will not replicate the tactics used tonight, but history in football has proven that nothing is impossible.
“There can be red cards, penalties, and we mustn’t forget the influence of Anfield.
“Our supporters create a significant impact for us, and their presence will be essential, especially given that we need their support now more than ever.”
