In a thrilling match at the Emirates, Olivia Smith scored a remarkable solo goal in the 17th minute, leading Arsenal to a decisive victory over Women’s Super League leaders Manchester City.
City came into the game on a remarkable 13-match winning streak but found themselves on the back foot after Smith’s stunning early goal.
With WSL top scorer Khadija Shaw tightly marked throughout, Arsenal managed to secure a crucial 1-0 win, bolstering their hopes of Champions League qualification.
The action began almost immediately, with Vivianne Miedema shooting wide from a distance before Arsenal found their rhythm in front of a crowd of 39,155.
Shortly after a threatening cross from Caitlin Foord went unrewarded, Smith struck a breathtaking goal after receiving a ball from Mariona Caldentey, which allowed her to bypass Ayaka Yamashita and net her seventh goal for the club in the 19th minute.

Just before halftime, Shaw tested Daphne van Domselaar, prompting City manager Jeglertz to substitute in Sam Coffey.
City felt aggrieved early in the second half when Lauren Hemp fell following contact from Arsenal defender Emily Fox near the penalty area.
Referee Abigail Byrne dismissed the appeals, and although Miedema managed to score, the goal was disallowed for a foul on Katie McCabe.
Despite City’s attempts to extend their 18-match unbeaten streak, their best opportunity came from an off-target header by Shaw, marking only their second defeat in the WSL this season.
