LONDON — Son Heung-Min had the opportunity to bid farewell to Tottenham Hotspur fans, asking them to cherish his memories with the club.
The South Korean star’s departure from the English side was somewhat unexpected in August, concluding a decade-long tenure at Spurs as he transitioned to LAFC.
Having served as the team captain and been a fan favorite, Son returned to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday for an official goodbye.
Before kick-off of the Champions League match against Slavia Prague, he addressed the supporters, expressing his hope that they “won’t forget me” and affirming, “I will always be Spurs and always be with you.”
Former Tottenham defender Ledley King presented Son with a commemorative trophy, after which he watched his former team secure a victory over Slavia Prague, marked by second-half penalties from Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons.
“It was great to see him,” said Tottenham manager Thomas Frank. “I mostly caught up with him right after the game here.
“I’m pleased he received such a well-deserved reception; he’s a true Tottenham legend, coming back home. It was wonderful to see him, and he appears happy and well settled.”
Earlier that day, Son signed a mural created in his honor, which was unveiled in preparation for his return to north London. The mural, located on Tottenham High Street, features him lifting the Europa League trophy from last season—the only title he won with the club—alongside his signature celebration.
