Al Ittihad, a club in the Saudi Pro League, is moving forward with plans to secure Mohamed Salah after the Liverpool striker announced he would depart the club at the season’s conclusion, multiple sources reported to ESPN.
Previously, Al Ittihad had a £150 million ($200 million) offer for Salah turned down by Liverpool in September 2023. They are now poised to renew their bid for the 33-year-old Egyptian international, aiming to secure a marquee signing to front their club following Karim Benzema‘s transfer to Al Hilal in February.
As per sources, Al Qadsiah is the only other Saudi club that can match Al Ittihad’s financial capabilities and aspirations.
Neither Al Hilal nor Al Nassr, home to Cristiano Ronaldo since 2023, nor Al Ahli have shown interest in Salah, according to the source.
Sources revealed to ESPN that Salah is set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer, despite having a year left on his contract signed in April 2025.
The Egyptian forward has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances for Liverpool, making him third on the club’s all-time scoring list, behind Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285), and fourth in the Premier League’s all-time scoring rankings with 191 goals.
Since joining from Roma in 2017, Salah has contributed to Liverpool’s success with eight major trophies, which encompass two Premier League titles and a Champions League.
Last April, Salah signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at Liverpool until the end of the 2026-27 season, following an impressive campaign that saw him play a pivotal role in their pursuit of a record-tying 20th league title.
However, his performances have waned this season, leading to his exclusion from three consecutive matches late last year. Salah subsequently gave a candid interview, criticizing the club for allegedly sidelining him during a tough stretch for the team.
ESPN’s sources also indicate that Al Ittihad is exploring a move for Manchester United’s midfield maestro Casemiro on a free transfer next season, contingent upon finalizing decisions regarding Fabinho’s role.
Casemiro had previously announced intentions to part ways with United once his contract concludes on June 30.
At 34, Casemiro maintains that he possesses the drive to continue competing at a high level in one of Europe’s foremost leagues.
Currently, Al Ittihad sits in sixth place within the Saudi Pro League.
