Manchester City is nearing the announcement of Enzo Maresca as their new manager after reaching a compensation agreement with Chelsea, according to sources.

Maresca could be formally introduced as Pep Guardiola’s successor at the Etihad Stadium as soon as this week, with discussions with Chelsea approaching a conclusion.

The delay in the announcement was due to Chelsea requesting compensation, despite having dismissed Maresca earlier in January.

City had initially planned to announce Maresca’s role the week following the conclusion of the Premier League season.

Chelsea is expected to receive over £10 million ($13 million) for Maresca, who commenced his five-year contract at Stamford Bridge in June 2024.

Maresca is familiar with City from his two previous tenures at the club, having been appointed head coach of the Elite Development Squad in 2020 and serving as an assistant to Guardiola from 2022 to 2023.

Following a decade at the Etihad, Guardiola announced his departure at the season’s end. In other news, sources inform ESPN that City is still pursuing Nottingham Forest‘s midfielder Elliot Anderson.

There is also interest in Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, who has caught the attention of Tottenham with a bid.

This summer, City aims to strengthen their midfield after Bernardo Silva‘s exit on a free transfer and uncertainties surrounding the futures of Nico González and Tijjani Reijnders.
