Tottenham Hotspur have initiated discussions with Liverpool regarding a potential transfer of defender Andy Robertson, according to sources.
The left-back, who arrived at Liverpool from Hull City in 2017, will see his contract expire at the end of the current season.
Earlier this month, Robertson expressed uncertainty about his long-term future and, according to sources, Tottenham has made an inquiry to acquire the 31-year-old, though no deal has been finalized yet.
Robertson has seen his position at Liverpool diminish this season, especially after the club’s £40 million ($54.1m) acquisition of Milos Kerkez during the summer transfer window. Sources indicate that any potential transfer this month would need to be advantageous for both the player and the club.
Tottenham’s interest in Robertson is part of their strategy to inject more experience and leadership into Thomas Frank’s struggling squad, currently positioned 14th in the Premier League.
“I’m a player who wants to play,” said Robertson earlier this month. “I have five months left on my contract, and we need to evaluate whether I will stay or explore other options.”
“I need to sit down with my family and make a decision. After a challenging summer, I’m just trying to enjoy my role at Liverpool.”
“My goal was to qualify for the World Cup, and thankfully, we achieved that goal. Now I need to consider what my family and I want for the future.”

Frank’s challenging start at Spurs has been further complicated by a significant injury list that includes critical first-team players like Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison. The broken ankle suffered by Ben Davies has exacerbated the Dane’s difficulties.
Since joining the club in 2023, Destiny Udogie has been the primary left-back, yet recurring muscle injuries have often sidelined him, leading to Djed Spence stepping in as a substitute.
If Robertson’s transfer to Spurs is finalized, he would follow another left-back, Souza, who recently joined the club from Santos in a €15 million deal earlier this week.
Robertson has made 363 appearances for Liverpool, securing a plethora of major honors, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2019.
