Liverpool is on the verge of signing Spain international Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna, after intercepting his expected transfer to Newcastle United, according to sources who spoke with ESPN.
With the recent exit of Mohamed Salah, Andoni Iraola’s team is actively seeking wide players. Muñoz, who is part of the Spain squad for the upcoming World Cup, has a release clause set at €40 million ($46 million).
The 22-year-old had been nearing a move to Newcastle, but reports indicate he will now finalize a six-year contract with Liverpool. The transfer fee is expected to be paid in two installments, with Liverpool staff traveling to the U.S. to conduct the forward’s medical examination on Wednesday in collaboration with the Spanish football federation.
Muñoz previously trained at the academies of both Barcelona and Real Madrid, making four senior appearances for Real Madrid.
In 2025, he transferred to Osasuna for a reported fee of €5 million, netting six goals in 34 LaLiga appearances during the previous season.
With Salah’s departure, Liverpool is looking to bolster their attack, and Muñoz is seen as a perfect addition to enhance speed and dynamic play on the flanks.
In addition to Salah’s exit, striker Hugo Ekitike is expected to miss the next season with a ruptured Achilles tendon, while Federico Chiesa may also leave the club.
Sources indicate that Liverpool is also interested in RB Leipzig player Yan Diomande and Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, although they are expected to face competition from various European clubs.
