Sources: Marseille…

According to sources, Marseille is among several clubs considering a loan for Arsenal midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, as reported by ESPN.

Initially, Arsenal was hesitant to let Nwaneri leave while they compete for honors across four competitions. However, they now believe a loan could benefit the 18-year-old’s growth.

This season, Nwaneri has only started four matches, with just one appearance since November 4.

Sources indicate that Marseille is prepared to pay for Nwaneri’s salary, but they do not intend to include an option or obligation for a permanent transfer, as he is seen as a vital part of Arsenal’s future plans.

Other clubs, including Crystal Palace and AFC Bournemouth, have also expressed interest in Nwaneri. However, Marseille is currently seen as the leading candidate due to their playing style under Roberto de Zerbi, which is believed to suit the England Under-21 international well.

Moreover, sources mention that Marseille’s participation in the Champions League is an appealing factor for the player.

ESPN sources reveal that Marseille is actively seeking a No. 10 during this transfer window.

Nwaneri had a significant impact last season when Bukayo Saka was sidelined due to a hamstring injury, starting 10 of the 15 matches from January to April.

He renewed his contract last summer, committing to Arsenal until 2030. However, with the arrival of Noni Madueke from Chelsea and the addition of Eberechi Eze to strengthen their central attack, Nwaneri’s playing time has been further limited.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had previously indicated that no players would leave the club during January due to a string of injuries affecting the squad. However, sources now suggest that the club is reconsidering and may allow Nwaneri to go on loan.
