The future of Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta remains in question as the transfer deadline looms, following AC Milan’s decision to withdraw their interest, sources have told ESPN.
Mateta was optimistic about finalizing a move exceeding £26 million ($35 million), but after undergoing medical assessments with Milan’s club doctor on Monday, the Serie A team opted not to proceed with the transfer.
The 28-year-old is currently dealing with a knee issue, but Milan’s sudden change of heart has left him in a precarious position just before the transfer window closes in England on Monday evening.

Juventus has also been monitoring Mateta, although it is uncertain if they will pursue a deal. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest made a £35 million ($47.8 million) offer earlier in the window.
It remains to be seen how this situation might impact Palace’s £48 million ($66 million) transaction with Wolves for Jorgen Strand Larsen, who was anticipated to join Selhurst Park as Mateta’s replacement.
