Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson has finalized an agreement to join Crystal Palace for a fee of £35 million ($47.2 million), according to sources speaking to ESPN.
Earlier this week, ESPN reported that while the two clubs had settled on a fee, Johnson was still weighing his options due to interest from Bournemouth, who are seeking a replacement for Antoine Semenyo, who is headed to Manchester City.
However, after discussions with Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, sources indicate that Johnson has opted to make the move to Selhurst Park. He is scheduled to undergo a medical examination later today.
The winger expressed a desire to evaluate his choices before confirming his transfer to Palace, as Glasner is eager for new signings to help the team tackle the added challenges of European competition, currently holding 10th place in the UEFA Conference League following six matches.
The Welsh international was Tottenham’s top goalscorer last season, netting 18 goals across all competitions, including the decisive goal in May’s Europa League final victory over Manchester United, which marked the club’s first trophy in 17 years.
Nonetheless, that achievement did not save manager Ange Postecoglou from being replaced, and under new coach Frank, Johnson has seen limited playing time, starting only six league matches this season.
Johnson originally joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest for £47.5 million (approximately $64 million) in September 2023.
Frank, adhering to his usual approach, was reluctant to discuss ongoing transfer rumors but confirmed that Johnson had participated in training ahead of Thursday’s match against Brentford.
“This is the third time I’ve been asked this question, and as always, I won’t comment on rumors regarding player transfers,” Frank stated. “He trained well and was instrumental in our recent victory against Crystal Palace. I expect him to be fully available for the match against Brentford.”
“Brennan is a crucial player for us. Some circumstances have made it challenging for him to start more games, especially since Mohammed Kudus has excelled in his position.”
“Brennan has shown great attributes, including his ability to make strong runs and score goals. He’s a top professional who trains hard, and I believe he’s ready to contribute in the upcoming matches.”
