Spain retains Nations…

On Tuesday, Spain triumphed over Germany with a score of 3-0 in the second leg of the UEFA Nations League final, successfully defending their European title. The victory was fueled by two goals from Clàudia Pina and another from Vicky López.

Spain showcased their strength in the first half, crafting several promising opportunities, yet they went into halftime still scoreless.

However, the second half saw Pina net goals in the 61st and 74th minutes, with López chipping in another at the 68th minute.

“Those are the types of goals I enjoy scoring, especially from a distance. The entire team played great,” Pina remarked following the match. “This is particularly thrilling for me as it’s my first trophy with the national team.”

In their preceding encounter last week, Germany and Spain finished in a goalless draw at Fritz Walter Stadion.

Spain celebrates their victory over Germany on Tuesday, successfully defending their UEFA Nations League title.

A record crowd of 55,843 fans filled Madrid’s Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium for the match, breaking the previous attendance record of 32,657 during the 2024 final against France at La Cartuja in Seville.

“This is one of the most magical nights I’ve ever experienced, truly one of the best of my career,” said Alexia Putellas.

This attendance also marks the second-largest for a women’s football match at the Metropolitano, surpassed only by the 60,739 fans who attended an Atlético Madrid-Barcelona match in 2019.

Forward Jenni Hermoso, Spain’s all-time leading goalscorer, came on as a substitute in the 80th minute for Esther González. Hermoso had been left out of the European Championship title quest in 2025 but was brought back for this tournament by new coach Sonia Bermúdez.

Spain achieved their Nations League victory despite the absence of their star midfielder Aitana Bonmatí, who suffered a broken leg in training on Sunday and is expected to be sidelined for five months.
