Tottenham captain Cristian Romero seemingly targeted the club’s leadership with accusations of “lies” in a passionate social media post that has since been modified, following the 3-2 loss to Bournemouth on Wednesday.
Spurs endured their eighth defeat of the Premier League season at the Vitality Stadium, thanks to a last-minute winner from Antoine Semenyo, leaving Thomas Frank’s team in 14th place in the standings.
In the wake of the match, Romero posted a detailed message apologizing to fans, while also indicating that “other people” should be more forthcoming and suggesting they “only appear when things are going well to tell a few lies.”
This particular sentence regarding “lies” was removed shortly after the post went live.
“My apologies to all the fans who support us everywhere, who are always there and will continue to be,” Romero stated.
“We are accountable, that’s for sure. I take responsibility first.”
“But we will continue to confront the challenge and strive to change the situation, both for ourselves and for the club.
“In times like this, it should be others who come out to talk, but they do not — as has been the case for several years. They only show up to share a few lies when things are going well.

“Especially during tough times, staying quiet, working harder, and progressing collectively is essential in football.
“Together, it’s easier.”
Following the final whistle on Wednesday, tensions arose, with Romero’s defensive teammates Micky van de Ven, João Palhinha, and Pedro Porro clashing with traveling fans.
