Claudio Tapia, the president of the Argentina Football Association (AFA), has expressed his desire for the Finalissima match between Spain and Argentina to be hosted in Buenos Aires, should the game be relocated from Qatar.
The highly anticipated match between the European champions and the Copa América titleholders is currently scheduled for March 27 at Lusail Stadium in Doha.
UEFA, CONMEBOL, and the local organizing committee are actively assessing the situation in the Middle East, with alternative locations being considered following the postponement of all tournaments and matches by the Qatar Football Association after the recent strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran.
“We are going to work on this because Spain prefers the Finalissima to be held there, but my preference is to have it at the Monumental stadium,” Tapia stated on Thursday, prior to his meeting with CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez in Buenos Aires.
Earlier this week, Rafael Louzán, president of the Spanish Football Federation, indicated that the match would likely be shifted to Europe, where most of the players from both national teams are based.

The Spanish FA suggested Real Madrid‘s Bernabéu stadium as a potential venue, an idea that has been dismissed by Tapia and the AFA.
The Monumental stadium serves as both the home ground for River Plate and Argentina’s national team.
