Djurgarden’s pursuit of Abdul Abdulmalik aligns with a recruitment model that prioritises spotting talent well before their market value peaks and later selling for a profit.
The Swedish club recently appointed Maximilian Hahn as sporting director following his spell at West Ham United, where he served as head of recruitment.
Hahn also worked under Sweden manager Graham Potter at West Ham, further strengthening ties between English football and the Scandinavian market.
Within this framework, Djurgarden continue to target players with room to develop and grow in value.
August Priske is a recent case in point. The Danish forward arrived from Midtjylland in 2024 and had a breakout year in Sweden, netting 18 league goals in 2025 before securing a move to Birmingham City in January 2026.
Abdulmalik represents a slightly different route into that market.
He hasn’t come through a prominent European academy; after launching his career at Boreham Wood, Djurgarden will hope for a similarly profitable outcome.
