For the first time since 2010, Spain has claimed the World Cup title.
Ferran Torres in the 106th minute secured a 1-0 victory against Argentina at the New York/New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Spain dominated the match, not allowing Argentina a shot throughout regular time and finishing with an impressive 20-2 shot rate.
This victory establishes Spain as the current champions of both the World Cup and the UEFA European Championship, which they won in 2024. Spain also claimed the Euro title in 2008 before their World Cup win in 2010. According to ESPN Research, this marks the third time a reigning Euro champion has also won the following World Cup, a feat previously achieved by Spain (2008-2010) and West Germany (1972-1974).
